Hello =]

Thank you for being here. I’m James Chatfield, and I’m a musician and writer. Spending a lot of my days performing on the streets; a space in which I find peace/comfort and see as an opportunity to provide a peaceful soundtrack to the streets. Currently based in the UK, usually I would be traveling around performing in any town/village/city I came across… though the year of 2020 has glued me to one place for the time being with National Lockdowns and Local Lockdowns. This change has had me adapting to live streaming on Twitch and Facebook.

Performing with two guitars played simultaneously (acoustic guitar and electric bass), a new take on the ‘one-man-band’. With occasional expansions of drum-kits and glockenspiels and vocals (videos below). This unique approach has gathered crowds around me on the streets, and those moments are incredible. To see the joy of strangers coming together and sharing this moment (children dance, encouraging their family to join and making others laugh, photos and videos capture those moments, storing those happy moments, to be re-watched), makes me want to do it more, and is the reason for doing – to spread joy and connect strangers.

I’ve been street-performing and documenting the journey for just over 4 years now. I’ve fallen in and out of love with it many times. In those low, dark moments, I go out and play, and it’s like a medicine… it cures my mind, I’m deeply grateful for this job and for everyone who supports it with donations along the way. The TEDx talk (above), gives you some idea of the journey so far, as does scrolling through this blog. If you’re interested in anything I do, stick around, find the platforms that best suit you and subscribe to me on those. Music and words will come often, videos, stories, audio downloads and more.

Compose, practice and perform. Read, learn and write. Anywhere and everywhere, and as often as I can… these are the things I wish to do, and these are the things I will do, regardless of circumstances and world-events.

I hope you too find what it is you’re curious about and wish to do often – once you do, just keep following it, and don’t let anyone else’s opinion stop you =]

Best Wishes,

James x

  4. Thank you so much for your insights to busking. I am just about to jump into busking. I am so excited. I am busking in Toronto, Canada. Just a huge venue. The weather has to get a little warmer though and then I am ready to go.
